Gramoz Pashko: “Berisha is making the plight of thousands of Albanian refugees even worse” Kostandin Karamanlis: “The day is near when Berisha will regret his actions” Around 200 more Albanians were sent back on Sunday, August 21, at the Kakavijë border crossing by the Greek police. We learned from well-informed sources that the procedure for the mass return of refugees will continue at least until the day the trial of the five minority members who are leaders of Omonia ends. Also, one of the most widely read Greek newspapers, “To Pondiq,” published the figure of 100,000 Albanians whom the Greek police have decided to return in the coming days. Crews from state and private television stations are always insisting on being near the highest-ranking political figures to obtain statements from them about the situation that has arisen between Tirana and Athens. Thus, Mr. Gramoz Pashko, in a statement given to Greece’s first television channel, said that Berisha is making the plight of thousands of Albanian refugees even worse. “Only through their work and sweat,” Pashko stated, “are hundreds of thousands of families in Albania able to make a living.” For his part, the President of Greece, Mr. Karamanlis, stated on Monday, 22.8.1994, that the day is near when Berisha will regret his actions. Meanwhile, Greek Prime Minister Andrea Papandreu described the trial of the five minority members as a farcical trial with pronounced nationalist overtones, but declined to make statements to journalists about other measures the Greek government would take.
