Tirana The “Pesticide” trial concludes A little less “poison” for the defendants Yesterday, Nejton Kodra and Pirro Trebicka, former attaché at the Albanian Embassy in Germany, lost the judicial “battle” that had been waged for months. In the early afternoon yesterday, the court panel presided over by Mr. Martin Deda found Nejton Kodra and P. Trebicka guilty of the criminal offense of abuse of office, sentencing them to imprisonment for 7 months and 1 year, respectively, suspended. According to the court’s ruling, by allowing the pesticides to arrive in Albania in late ’92 and early ’93, the defendants “had created the possibility of ecological and economic damage to Albania.” Thus ends the story of the pesticides, which have now been removed from Albania, but the ordeal had been a battle with less poison for the defendants too, who had continually denied the accusation. Leaders of Albanian parties leave for Strasbourg today As learned from reliable sources, a fax arrived in Tirana yesterday afternoon from the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Daniel TARSCHYS, inviting the Albanian parliamentary parties to present their objections regarding the Albanian Constitution at the “Europe” Palace in Strasbourg on October 27, 1994. We also learned yesterday that today the Deputy Chairman of the SP and head of its parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, Mr. Paskal Milo of the SDP, and Mr. Vasil Melo of the DPNJ are leaving for Strasbourg. We were unable to find out whether anyone from the PAD or PD would be leaving for Strasbourg. It is also not known whether any PD leader will leave the rallies to present his objections to the Council of Europe. Thus, the issue of the referendum on the Albanian Constitution will resonate and be addressed in Strasbourg, at the heart of the Council of Europe.
