3 members of the Constitutional Court resign

- They do not agree with the failure to examine the request of the PSD and PS on the illegality of the referendum - They also have objections to the chapter on the judiciary in the Draft Constitution Read page 3 for the statement addressed to President Berisha Three days before Sunday’s referendum, three members of the Constitutional Court, Xhavit Myrtaj, Naskën Shehi and Trifon Xhagjika, have resigned, upsetting the balance and constitutional order in Albania. They accuse the head of the Court of having blocked the request of the Socialist Party and the Social Democratic Party to stop the referendum. Regarding the referendum, they accuse the Court of having carried out a constitutional maneuver in favor of the President by failing to examine the request. According to the seven members, the President should have issued the constitutional act. Then the decision should have been taken with at least 9 votes. The three resigned judges did not accept the 8 to 7 vote in the Constitutional Court against rejecting the Draft Constitution. During yesterday’s session they also warned of the undermining of the principles of judicial independence in the Draft Constitution.
