Yesterday in Parliament, Arben Lika outside Parliament

In his place, the list deputy Hysen Bajrami Yesterday in Parliament Arben Lika outside Parliament In his place, the list deputy Hysen Bajrami Once again without the participation of opposition deputies, the plenary session of the People’s Assembly continued yesterday. According to the attendance cards recorded by computer, 74 deputies were present. Without any problems, the draft laws “on an amendment to the law on the construction, administration, maintenance and use of the irrigation and drainage system”, “on the use and administration of stamps and taxes”, “on the issuance of passports for travel abroad and the granting of visas” and the draft law “on the ratification of the financial convention between the Republic of Albania, the European Investment Bank and the Port of Durrës for the project of the foundation of the Durrës ferries” were approved. Deputy Bahri Bregu, who took the floor at the end of the session, informed the deputies present on behalf of the Mandates and Immunities Committee that, at the request of PD deputies, in place of Arben Lika, convicted by the court for smuggling, will be the first next deputy on the multi-member list, Hysen Osman Bajrami. After the approval, the new deputy Bajrami took the oath of office. As is known, deputy Lika was arrested last year in Gjirokastër after a truck intended for humanitarian aid for the Democratic Youth Forum turned out, after inspection, to be loaded with cigarettes. A police operation in the Gjirokastër district led to the arrest of Lika and his assistants who were driving and accompanying the vehicle. After the trial in the first instance, he was sentenced to 8 years out of the 10 that was the maximum penalty for the criminal smuggling offense with which he was charged. Later, the Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to 3 years and the Court of Cassation reduced it again to 12 months. Lika was released a few days ago after serving the full sentence. The removal of Lika’s mandate now after serving his sentence, as some deputies have stated, stems from the Electoral Law and the Constitutional Law.
