Zef Brozi’s immunity is not lifted

Last night in the People’s Assembly Zef Brozi’s immunity is not lifted A historic day for the Albanian Parliament - The path to personal rule and totalitarianism is blocked Last night at 23:30, with 48 votes in favor and 54 against, the lifting of the immunity of the president of the Court of Cassation was not approved. DP deputies showed dignity and independence. For the first time in around … freely and freed from prejudice, influence, or Party orders, [he cast] his vote. parliamentary groups, perhaps more than a congratulation to Brozi, was the joy of some DP deputies at being freed from the shackles of the mind. Last night, less than an hour before midnight, the deputies showed the Albanian public that totalitarianism will find it very difficult to return to Albania. For the first time during the roughly three years of governance by the Democratic Party’s political power, yesterday, during the vote on lifting Mr. Brozi, it finally became clear that something good is happening in Albania too. The outcome of the secret ballot showed two things, one better than the other: first, the president of the Court of Cassation did not have the immunity that had long been sought to be lifted revoked; and second, totalitarianism suffered its harshest blow with the help of votes from the Democratic Party. Although the DP parliamentary group declared its vote in favor of lifting Brozi’s immunity, the secret ballot, itself decided by votes, created the conditions for each deputy to “weigh” the Albanian performance as the Nano, Haxhia, Meta, Hajdari, etc. precedents, but Parliament had not managed to escape loyalty to personal power and loyalty to the party. And, in addition to the parliamentary groups of the PS, PSD, PAD, PDD, and PDNJ, DP deputies also declared themselves against lifting Brozi’s immunity. It must be emphasized that the credit for this achievement belongs precisely to the DP deputies, because, as we stressed, deputies from the other parties declared their position openly, and without the votes of the DP deputies, their votes could not have had the value they actually did. Last night, democracy in Albania took a decisive turn, beginning precisely with the start of the independence of the judiciary, but also with the DP’s genuine change of heart.
