The punishment was handed down yesterday by the military court of the capital against an Albanian soldier. The protagonist, Mark Zeqo, 32, with the rank of sergeant, was an administrator in the Albanian Airborne company. According to the court ruling, confirmed by Judge Fatmira Laska, in August of this year he had gone to Louisiana in the USA, to a military base where Albanian paratroopers were to train as part of the operation “Shqiponja e Paqes”. But precisely on the last day of their stay there, on 27 August, the sergeant was struck by a terrible toothache - as he testified during the trial - and went to have it removed in a city hospital. The hours passed and he did not return. Then his company left. But when it arrived in Frankfurt, Germany, they informed him that the American military police had captured the fugitive, who had been dressed in civilian clothes. “Avoidance of military service” — on this charge he was sentenced yesterday to 5 months in prison, exactly as prosecutor Njazi Sefri had requested in his closing argument. Precisely in Mjedë of Shkodër, the 11-year-old Elvis Hasmega had an ending both painful and tragic. He hanged himself by accident while trying to stage a violent film he had seen on the TV screen, precisely the night before the tragedy. On Tuesday morning, little Elvis, while “playing” his favorite role, threw a rope from the ceiling of the house, put his neck into the loop that was formed, but remained in it for a long time, unable to free himself from the rope.
