Anti-communism loses in Poland
At the end of the presidential elections: Kwaśniewski defeats Wałęsa
The East no longer needs anti-communists
Berisha is destined to imitate Wałęsa both in victory and in defeat The Poles made developments across the East easier to predict when, on Sunday, they elected a former communist as president of the country. Especially for us Albanians, the Poles gave us the opportunity to see more clearly and further into the country’s political future. By taking the mandate away from Le Wałęsa, nearly 52 percent of Poles gave new dimensions to governing models in the East. From now on, Poland will be run at all central levels by the left, described as former communists. The vote for the former communist candidate in the historically most anti-communist country of the East does not show that the Poles voted to return to communism. The speed of political processes in the East, unfortunately, quickly sidelined even the politicians of hope who arrived in the East at the beginning of the 1990s. They continue to seek victory with the arguments of the 1990s, with the struggle against communism, that is, with the past, forgetting that voting is done for the future. page 7

He is shot at with a pistol at Ali Spahia
A sensational incident at the entrance to Laç
The perpetrator is released after 12 hours from the police station
LAÇ- A pistol shot was fired at the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party. Only by chance was one of the highest figures in the Albanian Parliament miraculously saved from the “assassination attempt.” After it was confirmed that he was out of danger, a complaint was immediately filed, after which a driver was arrested. According to well-informed sources at the Laç police station, who refuse to be identified, we learned for “KJ” that last Saturday, during Mr. Ali Spahia’s trip, deputy chairman of PDSH, to Tirana, shots were fired from a pistol toward the car in which Mr. Spahia was traveling. The sources make it clear that the incident occurred at the entrance to Laç. After leaving the scene at speed, Mr. Spahia stopped at the Laç police station, from where he filed a complaint about the incident. Immediately, the law enforcement forces under the direction of the head of public order, Mr. Fatmir Alimulla, managed to arrest the perpetrator and isolate him in the Laç police station. The author of the “adventure” was named Rakip Martini, a driver by profession, the brother of the director of the agricultural bank of the Laç district; 12 hours were needed to prove Mr. Spahia’s “inaccuracy,” who said that Mr. Martini did not fire a weapon, but blocked Mr. Spahia’s way and was therefore fined 60,000 old lek! After payment of the amount fined by order of the head of public order, the handcuffs were removed from the assailant so that he could return to his family. ARDIAN BUSHI
