Accused of spying on Berisha SHKODËR/ This time, the trial of Montenegrin national Besnik Lesheviq, accused of spying on behalf of the Yugoslav secret service, as well as that of Albanian national Mehmet Logu, a former non-commissioned officer in the Republican Guard who is accused of high treason, was postponed before it even began. The saga of Montenegrin national Lesheviq began in July 1993. In addition to his arrest in Shkodër, the investigations conducted claim that Lesheviq gathered information about the movements of President Rugova and President Berisha. He was also involved in cross-border smuggling. The law-enforcement forces’ failure to act properly in bringing the defendants before the court led to the trial being postponed until 3 May. The marathon of trials against Lesheviq began in September 1994. He was 55 ELBASAN/ An event as paradoxical as it was heartbreaking has shocked public opinion in Elbasan. It was a suicide that took place in the village of Godolesh, a village near the city that is often at the center of people’s stories. This time the olive tree, the tree of peace, became the setting for a terrible tragedy. Its branches served as a gallows, where 55-year-old Skënder Vaska decided to carry out the barbaric execution of himself. This is the first time in all of Godolesh’s history that it has experienced such an event. His sons found the man who had hanged himself at midday on Sunday, with a rope around his neck on an olive-tree branch some distance from the house. Dhaska, who had left home in the morning, had not returned at lunchtime as usual. This delay aroused the sons’ suspicions, and they began searching for their father, worried. While the competent authorities have begun investigating the incident, the reasons for the act remain a mystery, and it will be the expert examination that clarifies the motives that drove the 55-year-old to end his life tragically.
