What was notable was that they were caught in groups near the region’s most important centres in Puglia: Bari, Brindisi, Monopoli, Lecce and Otranto, which points to the widespread nature of the landings. It is thought that around 400 other refugees have evaded checks and managed to enter Italian territory. Meanwhile, in Bari, the pushback of Kosovars trying to flee via Montenegro continues. Yesterday alone, 50 Kosovars were denied entry to Italy on the grounds that they were in violation of the “Martelli” law. The “Martelli” law has been in force since 1990, without any amendments being made by parliament. But from 1990 until a few months ago, Kosovars had been entering Italy freely. BBC

- The bodies of two children also remain unrecovered The ongoing searches by divers in Lake Shkodër have led to the discovery of the bodies of seven of the nine people who drowned in the tragedy of 1 May. Searches intensified on Wednesday, two days after the sinking, and the bodies of Agim Medja, aged around 40, the owner of the boat that sank in the middle of the lake, and the six others were recovered from the bottom of the lake: his son Durim Medja, Bledar Stankaj, Ardit Sykja, Rinor Cani, Sajmir Hamzi and Urim Melacaku, all aged 10–13.
