The Athens prosecutor: "The investigations should restart"
ATHENS - The Athens prosecutor’s office has requested the opening of an investigation into the case of the execution of eight Greek soldiers on the Kakavijë border, where an armed commando group killed them on 10 April 1994 in Peshkëpi, 4 kilometers from Gjirokastër. According to official sources here, this case is being reviewed after statements by the former Greek minister Kondovra, who claimed that the execution of the members of the Greek commando unit was a staged event for which the real responsibility should be sought in certain political circles in Athens.
Vice Minister of Defense Kondovras’ suspicions regarding the execution of the soldiers of the commando unit on the Greek-Albanian border became public in a television program. Confronted with questions, he described the Albanian plan as "a crazy provocation". Recalling the great shock caused by this execution and the Greek nationalist retaliation. He further accused the Albanian government of collaborating in the construction of the anti-Albanian plan.
In the aftermath of the story’s revival, on Thursday evening, two Greek participants would speak; they were detained after refusing to show Albanian documents at the Kakavijë customs point. The case is being investigated by AMVJ - a Greek terrorist organization which has become an instrument against the Albanian state. It has also received complaints against it. Meanwhile, the court of Ioannina began to question the head of Vurgut - one of the participants in the group who is accused of breaking into the house of the former deputy prefect of Gjirokastër.
Several matters remain to be clarified as a provocation in that case regarding the reinstatement of the prison. It was done from the house of Koq Pashkali and the threats were issued. The attack carried out against the Peshkëpi office, a case involving AVMJ - a terrorist organization which placed explosives in the country’s depot. Escalating voices speak of signals that could create a rift between the two countries.
