While in Greece to attend an inter-Balkan meeting ahead of the UN Conference on Women, Morina Bratislava, minister for refugees, stated that “only a relatively small number” of Serbian refugees from Krajina, estimated at around 160,000 people in total, would be settled in Kosovo. Bratislava went on to say that the settlement of this small number—which she called relatively small—would change the demographic balance of the region. Alongside her statements describing as unfounded fears of a new visit by enemies and incursions, she ruled out any spread of the Yugoslav conflict into Kosovo.

The group was uncovered through cooperation between Rimini police and the financial police’s operational anti-drug squad in Trieste, which has long been monitoring illegal Albanian immigrants. This time, it is not Albanians exploiting their compatriots, but a large group from southern Italy. The arrested family consisted of Giovanni Putignano, 62, his wife Maria Leggeri, 43, and their sons Raffaele and Nicola, 28 and 29. Further arrests were made in Bari, Taranto, and Puglia. Fake documents and 3 pistols were found during the arrests. Among those arrested was also an Albanian whose name has not yet been made public. The Albanian in question is believed to find girls in Albania and bring them to Italy. Italy — The arrival of illegal migrants continues BARI — The arrival of illegal migrants, mostly Albanians, on the Italian coast shows no sign of stopping. In fact, it reached a record number of 122 people, including a little girl aged 6. This large group of illegal migrants was caught during the night between Monday and Tuesday by Italian law enforcement forces. The Italian army, which patrols along the Adriatic coast, the police, and the Carabinieri tasked with controlling illegal immigration have been unable to stem the influx of refugees. The scenario is now well known. If the weather held, powerful motorboats would set off from the Albanian coast to reach the sandy Italian beaches and unload their human cargo: Albanians drawn by the Italian dream, Turks of Kurdish origin fleeing the war, and Chinese people ready to join the ranks of workers in illegal workshops. During the night between Monday and Tuesday, two Italian customs patrols intercepted two boats carrying a total of 72 Albanians. They will be returned to their country, as will three other Albanians caught at sea in a rubber dinghy. Another group of 22 illegal migrants, whose origins are still unknown, travelling in a motorized rubber dinghy, were luckier and managed to scatter as soon as they landed. Another 20 Albanians, after being caught on the beach by the Carabinieri, managed to escape, but most of them were caught again later.
