Court issues ruling on the absconding swindler More than $1.5 million entrusted to Interpol TIRANA—Just 25 days after the most sensational escape of this summer, the Tirana Court yesterday at noon issued a decision to arrest its protagonist, Osman Limani. Following the start of an investigation by the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office, immediately after citizens reported being swindled out of a staggering 1.5 billion lekë, it was concluded that he had fully committed the criminal offense. Official documents are now being prepared to extradite the businessman from Turkey, where he has settled with his entire family, and to arrange, through Interpol and our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his return to Albania to stand trial. Clan war after a billiards-table dispute Only one of the perpetrators sentenced to 2 years in prison TIRANA—An ordinary argument at a village billiards hall sparked a veritable clan war, which resulted in one young man being killed and another injured. While the killer managed to evade the police, the other perpetrator was sentenced yesterday to two years in prison for “intentional grievous bodily harm.” According to the court ruling confirmed yesterday at noon by Judge Arian Balliu, the incident took place on 9 January this year. The crime began with a trivial argument at the billiards hall in the village of Ferkan between Flamur Xhaferi and Behar Qehajaja. But the argument, which had ended in punches, resumed several hours later in the village streets. In fact, Qehajaja’s father’s attempt to put an end to the quarrel by going to the Xhaferi home and apologizing had been fruitless. It seemed, moreover, to have further inflamed the atmosphere, since many people from both clans joined the fight. Knives and clubs were the weapons used by those involved in the violence, which resulted in the death of young Eduard Daja, from the Xhaferi clan, and the serious wounding of Behar Qehajaja, from the opposing clan. The perpetrator, Qehajaja, fled immediately after the crime, while Flamur Xhaferi was arrested. For the defendant, prosecutor Ariston Puka requested four years in prison, while Judge Balliu imposed two. Z.D
