The Socialists contradict themselves once again “Socialists are cowards,” Neritan Ceka had declared some time ago, and some did not believe this statement. But the stance of the deputy chairmen of the PS has repeatedly created the impression that they really are. It is now clear that Berisha has seriously frightened the PS leadership, apart from its chairman, who is in prison. The files, denunciations, genocide, the possible prison sentence, of course, are having their effect. They are driven so far as to contradict their own statements given to journalists. That is what happened yesterday too, when the first socialist deputy chairman, Servet Pëllumbi, disavowed a study and the political map of this party, which forecast an electoral triumph for the Socialists in 20 districts of the country, published in “Koha jonë” and made available by members of the PS leadership themselves. As if to confirm the fear of the Socialist leadership, Mr. Pëllumbi of the PS hurried to deny the victory that had been presented according to data from the grassroots. It is surprising that Pëllumbi denied the news of the PS victory (a unique case on the eve of a campaign) only after it was attacked by the official press. The denial was not made the day before yesterday, when the article was published in our newspaper, but yesterday after the harsh reaction of RD. Absurd is the fact that the denial signed by Pëllumbi’s own hand, in his role as PS spokesperson, uses the very terms used by RD; “The map encourages national division,” as if this map were about the areas that Serb would win and not the PS. How a nation can be divided by the publication of a map showing in which areas, compared with the Albanian parties, it secures a majority in elections and in which it does not feel secure, only RD and the philosopher Pëllumbi can know. It is not the first time that Socialist leaders have contradicted themselves. On many occasions they have asked our journalists to write about their meetings with politicians or diplomats, including details of the conversations, but the next day after their interlocutors reacted to the leaking of the meeting secrets, these PS leaders have denied what they told the journalists, placing the blame on the newspaper, even though their words have been and are recorded on cassette tapes. The fear of the Socialist leadership has been observed several times when they have given strong interviews or statements during the day and then come to the newsroom in the evening begging for them to be shortened, changed, softened, or removed entirely from publication. When time has not made such a thing possible, the next day, out of fear, they have denied them. “We will occupy Skanderbeg Square, and if Berisha does not give us permission, we will take it without permission,” one of the socialist deputy chairmen declared in parliament before journalists on the night the election law was approved. But his bravery vanished as soon as he left the parliament perimeter. The next day when journalists asked this deputy chairman to comment on the statement and his subsequent actions, the phone said he was ill. On the night when the entire staff of “Koha jonë” was taken to the police station, many colleagues from other newspapers came in front of the precinct. Likewise, Zogaj, Imami, Gjinushi, Gëçi, etc. reportedly called at midnight to inquire about the fate of the 33 journalists, while Pëllumbi replied on the phone that he had a bit of a stomach issue, as if someone had forced him to put on a cap and go to a disco. As for that word “revulsion” that Professor Pëllumbi uses at the end of his letter, it would be better to keep it for someone else, who fears the past more than the future of the PS.
