Tirana under President Berisha’s shouts

The presidential marathon begins: from Krraba to Qyteti Studenti The President breaks the referendum records: 12 rallies just yesterday The capital is under the shouts of the Albanian President and his people. Just yesterday, Sali Berisha held 12 electoral meetings, even though he appears to be in poor health. The head of state confirmed that stress is making it difficult to get over the blunders of the 6 November '94 referendum. From one area to another, Albania’s number one ran around yesterday, speaking for hours to people who, curious or fanatical, had come to hear his promises for the future. The content of Berisha’s words changed very little from one rally to the next. "Support the PD; with us everyone wins, do not vote for the Marxists," was the essence of the Albanian President’s message, loudly delivered to the inhabitants of Tirana and the surrounding villages. Yesterday during Berisha’s campaign, another camera belonging to Koha Jonë was also stolen page 3

The houses of the drug-addicted are born

In one month, 120 young people affected by drugs seek a doctor’s help The alarm of the “white poison” is spreading widely into eight-year schools We have started looking into setting up a center for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. It was my many clients themselves who gave us the bold idea, which I will carry out. In just a few days, dozens of them have asked me for help, while such a center does not exist and our solution is temporary. This is what Gjin Lleshi, the well-known doctor in the treatment of drug addicts, declared just a few hours ago to “KJ”. page 2

Action by Telekom and SHIK against “Koha Jonë”

Telephones blocked for five days In a way, the action by the Tirana Telekom and SHIK against “Koha Jonë” continues to be admired. For five consecutive days the two telephone numbers of our newspaper have remained blocked, despite the “interest” of the telecommunication chiefs themselves. In fact, this interest was so great that within a short time they managed to cut off every signal on the two private lines that provisionally connected our newsroom. It seems they did not carry out a specific service since the Telekom people do not seem to be coming up with any satirical column or any newspaper where things are thrown here and there. In any case, knowing that the duty of Telekom is to connect and not to disconnect, we call on the leaders of this institution not to confuse telephones with microphones and switchboard operators with activists, and to intervene immediately to fix the telephones of the newspaper “Koha Jonë”. We add that even in the event of indifference, Tirana has so many telephones that they cannot all be cut off in 10 days. Nor can it be a coincidence that the telephone line in the newsroom was cut when, yesterday before and yesterday, the phone signal at the homes of several journalists of “Koha Jonë” was also cut.
