Italy: New solutions soon

Foreign Minister Tritan Shehu in Rome We will send a special envoy for dialogue between the Government and the parties Lamberto Dini, Italy’s Foreign Minister, yesterday called on Albania to quickly accept dialogue so that the existing parameters are preserved and the reform strategy encouraged by foreign partners is not undermined. In a meeting with his Albanian counterpart, Tritan Shehu, in Rome, the Italian Foreign Minister said that it was necessary for Albania’s process to be democratized [?]. His remarks immediately echoed in Albanian political circles, which seem to be seeking a new approach in a difficult political moment. The meeting takes place against the backdrop of strong opposition reactions and calls for a review of recent developments in Tirana. Dini said that after the events of 26 May and the situation that has been created, Italy has an interest in seeing our country move toward a calmer and more cooperative political climate. According to the Italian agency ANSA, he stressed that Albania must not deviate from the existing reform parameters and must strengthen institutional stability. Calls for a solution acceptable to all parties, including the government and the opposition, were also repeated by other Italian representatives. In this context, the possibility of sending a special envoy to Tirana to facilitate talks between the sides was also mentioned. The new and clear calls for a solution include diplomatic intervention and cooperation with the international factor. "We think we will help with dialogue and that the Albanian government must preserve the existing parameters," Dini stated during a joint press conference with Shehu. According to the Italian agency ANSA, Dini told his Albanian counterpart that Italy needed a new political climate and that the parties must show responsibility in order to avoid further tensions. He called for the preservation of the reform course and respect for democratic standards.
