2 April of Democratic Impunity
Recent events in Albania, in all respects, evoke the path of revolt. Just as now, the uprising of our citizens against authoritarianism and the police state in Albania, in the name of a fake “democratization.” Just as on 2 April 1991, once again in our cities innocent victims occurred and again. In 1991, the blood of Albanian students was shed by the four communist policemen. Later, at that time, the Union expanded up to organizing protests with means and stagecraft. And it happened, in step with other policies. The first pluralist government, despite its massive proclamations, or the liberal program of the state government’s stages of the country, at once as a democratic government, did not remember even once to punish this crime against its students and citizens.
The same hands that turned yesterday’s Vlorë red with blood are the criminal hands that made Albania a political wall of ruins for 6 consecutive years. The same faces that had the courage to terrorize the post office with truly innocent accusations against the protesting students who died for freedom and democracy are also the faces of yesterday’s punisher. The movement of 20 February, of 6 December, including recently the city of Vlorë, all despite the correctness and injustice of every government that, in the name of its despotic power, kills citizens blindly and without thought. In the parliamentary career of 1991, the government, the majority and the opposition would have defined and would have sacrificed for the sake of a “police state” and a fake “democratization.” Albania has now clearly learned where this policy leads. Its citizens and civic life, with great difficulty, are understanding the meaning of the organized terrorism of a state that kills its own citizens. Now is the time to stop it. The death of the innocent and the injuries of the innocent, the slain and the wounded, by the regime of the “force of law” that “responds” on behalf of the destructive power of the regime. The responsible must be punished through all the rules and the problem of the government of Vlorë? Who killed? Who ordered it? Who gave the order? Whose policeman was it? Who opened the door? No one dares to evade this responsibility. If these questions fall on today’s government, then this government can no longer remain. The President, instead of declaring a state of emergency, should declare the government’s resignation. Because the democratic 2 April will never be forgotten by Albanians.
