Revolt in Tirana Prison

The capital’s police on alert level 1. Bloody fire, hostages freed after 5 hours Page 2 When the referee is missing Yesterday’s clash some time ago between the lending trade companies “VEFA” and the Albanian government, even now, only apparently has remained “dormant”, but in reality it has always been present and unavoidable, with all its opposing elements, clearly representing an unequal “war” between a state and hundreds of private companies or firms. The conflict became concrete with the burning of the “VEFA” building, which housed the offices of the administration of this newly proclaimed company “VEFA”. On Monday afternoon it was quiet in the center of the capital. Fog had fallen and the center of Tirana was almost deserted. This was no concern for most parliamentarians[?] who, unfortunately, were trying to turn the government accusations into inevitable ones[?], and with empty justifications were considering them irresponsible. Yes, with the fire extinguished, the images of yesterday’s event clearly showed once again that the Albanian government finds it difficult to govern and even more difficult to build a state with clearly defined legal foundations acceptable to citizens. A police operation to remove a company from the premises of a building (VEFA) and to enforce an order against it on the part of a parliamentarian[?], with dozens of police forces surrounding the building, is an act that shocked public opinion. To create the impression that it was enforcing the law, the police created a tense situation full of unknowns. In reality it seems that the police had found neither the proper way to communicate nor the legal basis for its own action. The figures and consequences of the fire in the “VEFA” building are still unclear. There is talk of casualties, injured people and hostages. But in any case, this episode calls into question the way state power is being exercised in the country.
