BY FROK ÇUPI Albanians and Serbs, facing one another, are both the heroes and the victims of the war. As victims, both sides are alone. No one else in this world will suffer from this war. Albanians and Serbs are leaving the heads of their sons in the mountains and in the cities; Albanians are fleeing, to return or never to return to their homes; Serbs whose parents are Serbo-Albanian, and Albanians whose parents are Albanian-Serbian, are becoming orphans with living parents; Albanians and Serbs are being left in a second or third feud in history. These two eternal neighbours will have the poison of this war, caused with “Enthusiasm” and “Hurrah!”, between them. But who are the other instigators? When we say the words “other instigators,” naturally we imagine a great distance, at least beyond nationalist manners and fever. But in fact, nationalist fever itself cannot cause war or victims unless it is turned into a powerful instrument of an ideology of war. Alongside the Serbian and Albanian “instigators” stands the driving force of wickedness, which has turned both sides into victims, while itself remaining either far away or invisible. There is no doubt that Albanians and Serbs are among the causes of their own tragedy. But who are the other instigators? Let us begin looking for them as close to us as possible, though their roots lie very far away. And two days ago, the Albanian press wrote that at Tirana’s Military Hospital, where several UÇK members are being treated, Egyptians and Yemenis were also found among them. At the same time, reports say that super-criminals who have shaken the human world and come from the Arab part of the world are being arrested in Tirana. What are they saying on the Serbian side? Similar reports are coming from there too: “In Kosovo, with guns in their hands, ... are being seen, hidden?” Such information is also being reported by the world’s most famous agencies: Reuters, AFP, etc. So someone else, outside the Serbian-Albanian arena, has dared to bring in not only the whole lot, but also weapons. Meanwhile, the victims remain Serbs and Albanians. The greatest irony is that the victim cries: “Thank you, volunteers!” (Continued on page 2)
