An explosive blast damaged the front door of the "Dajti" hotel on Wednesday morning, as well as the second-floor windows of the building. According to our correspondent at the scene, the explosion was recorded at around 2:45 a.m. Neither SHIK nor other structures charged with keeping order in the capital have been able to provide an accurate explanation for the placing of the explosive device, a phenomenon that is shaking sleepy Tirana once again. After the Ministry of the Interior and PPSH, the hotel "Dajti" in the center of the capital has now also become a target for attackers this summer.
Tirana can by no means make itself feel calm, even when things seem to be returning to normal. Another night of explosions struck at midnight on Wednesday, further awakening fear and insecurity among many citizens of Tirana. A few minutes before midnight, a small amount of tritol exploded in an electrical transformer near the Albanian terrorism base.
After the SHIK building was burned down, the smoke clouds caused damage to the building of the former hotel "Dajti", near the General Directorate of Railways. Later, the SHIK offices were also damaged by the flames. It is still not clear whether the explosive device had been placed in the hotel "Dajti" or nearby, although according to people at the scene the explosion was powerful. The fire and flames damaged the hotel windows as well as part of the façade.
It is learned that anti-explosive specialists arrived immediately at the scene and began initial investigations. Numerous police forces arrived in the area, blocking traffic. In the early hours of the morning, the authorship of this act was still unknown. Alongside the main story on the front page is also given the repeated warning from the State Department to U.S. citizens in Tirana, while President Clinton announces that more than 200 Marines are guarding the Embassy.
