The bargains of the Rebirth

BY ARMAND SHULLAKU On Wednesday, Saddam Hussein of NATO, Milošević and the commando group of the KLA, the drug commander, had extremely unfriendly relations; there were complications of payment, while the Serbian president had or had not complied with the agreements with the American envoy Holbrooke. Despite speculation about why the Yugoslavs still have not brought the war in Kosovo to an end and are giving the US time to pressure the Serbs militarily over war and peace, things seem to be moving normally for the country in the heart of Europe. The war, Westerners say, was started by the KLA with the killing of police officers and Serbs, while for Milošević it is an internal matter for his country. In the American version, the logic is the opposite. Milošević and his forces have justified the dictator’s actions with the killing of women, the elderly and children who fled en masse toward Macedonia and Albania. In reality, NATO’s legal transformations toward Milošević and the commander group for changing everything in Pristina are functioning under the influence of a certain need. But where the cooperation pact begins and ends, and the border checkpoints with the Serbs, there is no more outcry, they ask. On the other hand, international tensions continue and that new winner of this absent war, namely the NATO commander in Kosovo, is now waiting for signals to understand from the president. In any case, is President Hussein not at war with the US using the same language he uses for the war in Kosovo? Perhaps also to put an end to a model that has not changed? While some want to tell the civilized world, “NATO, we hear you.” In Belgrade there may be militants who are not letting go of the nationalist course in power. They want to know who the enemy is and who is behind it. Now in Kosovo, Milošević needs a second explosion to restore a development. Those who thought of involving the President in the whole process may have done so only to save policies. It is not the first time that words dissolve in the face of experience. If the word returns once again to the battle in the region, then from a great but. People are no longer willing to endure endless hatred. And precisely this is the biggest problem of a transition that is dragging on and of a politics that speaks differently from life.
