For the attention of Prime Minister Pandeli Majko Yesterday, following an article in “Koha Jonë” about the situation in Kukës caused by the arrivals, written by our correspondent in the Kukës district, Bashkim Shala, the government’s prefect for this prefecture, Mr. Qemal Elezi, called the “KJ” journalist out of a meeting. If the prefect has psychological problems and needs to relax, perhaps he could make use of a free visit in Tirana; but if he thinks that by threatening journalists he can intimidate Albania’s largest newspaper, then we are dealing with a dangerous precedent of an official taking on the role of the state. The prefect has no reason to throw journalists out, when they are precisely the ones informing public opinion about what is happening in Kukës and on the border with Kosovo, while also supporting the current government in its efforts to govern effectively. To conclude, if the prefect thinks the journalist has made a mistake, let him take the newspaper to court; but if he dares to repeat yesterday’s action, then we will ask the Prime Minister to dismiss this prefect, whose working methods are characterized by arrogance.
