Feasts and uprisings

BY MARTIN LEKA Imagine for a moment how Ismail Qemali would have hostited the boisterous crowd, you lazy fool! The supporter of the fan Berisha, Sali, calls you comrade, and how does he speak to you? So much so that these politicians and hacks have made him the “leader” of the uprising for the 88th anniversary and a descriptive volume on the disarmament of his own police with double seriousness? Oh, for 88 years from the proclamation of the independence of the Middle Ages! So much so that these politicians and hacks have made him the “leader” of the uprising on the 88th anniversary of the independence of Ismail Qemali and Isa Boletini? And somewhere one deformed writer, another a cameraman, place them on stage in military uniforms, leaving them to linger in silence for sorrow. Or perhaps, by making them ridiculous? For the 88 years since the declaration of independence, have they pulled the plug on Sali’s coffin? Were hundreds of people brought in, sent from the imagined railway road, to enter the center? Were secret police inserted? To break up rallies with their hands? To attack with sticks and wood? To do favors and antics? To block the streets of the capital? To arrest and proclaim a government? To wash their hands of Albania? To repeat the scenario of 14 September? To seize the prime minister’s office? To burn institutions? To raise the flags of rebellion? To profane independence? To try to convince us that the 88th anniversary of independence was a day of uprising and not a national celebration? In this chaos, the simplest question that arises is: can there be a national celebration when it is organized with a party spirit and exclusionary language? Can it be called respect for history when the interests of the day are placed above it? This article is a reaction to the mixing of historical memory with political rhetoric and to the use of national figures for party consumption.
