Rilindja Demokratike

E martë, 8 mars 1991

TIRANA - PARIS - BRUSSELS AND BACK

A delegation of the Democratic Party, led by Dr. Evi-pe. European political party leaders and Members of the European Parliament commit themselves to support the Democratic Party and the democratic state for which it is fighting. (CHRONICLE OF 22–26 FEBRUARY) THE MEETING OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNITED WEST We went to these meetings as representatives of a democratic Albania that had been created in the spirit of the free world. In this sense, in the first pluralist elections we were altogether the winners thanks to the high level of organization, and we carried that same spirit forward. We represented a party of calm, independence, and at the same time programmatic clarity. We felt this in our meetings as well. THE MEETING OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNITED WEST We went to these meetings as representatives of a democratic Albania that had been created in the spirit of the free world. In this sense, in the first pluralist elections we were altogether the winners thanks to the high level of organization, and we carried that same spirit forward. We represented a party of calm, independence, and at the same time programmatic clarity. We felt this in our meetings as well. In our speech we expressed our conviction that democracy in Albania will prevail and that our future is Europe. We emphasized that the Democratic Party is determined to fight for a state governed by law, for a market economy, for political and human freedom. We asked for understanding and help for the Albanian democratic process. FREE NOT OF FREE TIRANA WILL BE A VICTORY OF FREEDOM In particular, it was underlined that the elections of 31 March will be decisive for the fate of Albania and that the Albanian people will choose freedom. It was said that Tirana will be the center where the democratic will will be expressed most clearly and that the victory of the democratic forces will be a victory for freedom. MEETINGS WITH PERSONALITIES AND POLITICAL FORCES The delegation held meetings in Paris and Brussels with representatives of European political parties, Members of the European Parliament, and public figures from political life. In these talks, the situation in Albania, the economic situation, political pressure, administrative violence, and the need for free elections were explained. THE UNITY OF DEMOCRATIC FORCES In the talks held, clear support for the Democratic Party and its aims was noted. The need for the unity of all democratic forces, political dialogue, and the avoidance of provocations was emphasized. Likewise, readiness for moral and political assistance was expressed. In Paris, meetings were held with representatives of French political life. In Brussels, meetings were held with deputies and representatives of European institutions. The discussions were characterized by a spirit of understanding and appreciation for the democratic path that Albania had begun. FOR A EUROPEAN ALBANIA We declared that Albania belongs to Europe not only geographically, but also historically and spiritually. We asked that our country be helped to open itself to the West, to free itself from isolation, and to enter the family of democratic nations. On returning, the delegation noted that the political support received in these meetings will be of great importance for the Albanian people and for the Democratic Party in the decisive days that were approaching.
