Only four days separate us from
31 March.
Yesterday, in the former cinema of Durrës, in front of the Palace of Culture, in Shkodër, in front of the House of Culture and at the Monument of the Heroes in Lushnjë, hundreds and hundreds of citizens gathered to be present at the rallies of the Democratic Party candidates for deputies.
To listen and to see, to feel,
to believe even more in the new pro-
gram, in the moral strength of youth, in
the true warmth of human spirit,
understanding, trust in one another that
these meetings radiate. To understand
the difference between two worlds, yesterday and today. To feel and to touch
up close the truth, this long-waited
sister, driven out of her house. A great truth with a battered face,
blackened with fragments of glass and bayonets and, above all, with eyes full of light, with an undimmed gaze. The truth which,
without discussion, has left the road of its own.
Everywhere, meetings with Democratic Party candidates have turned into manifestations of popular support, into manifestations of the imminent victory.
In Durrës, the Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Sali Berisha, who heads the list of Democratic Party candidates, spoke about the economic and political situation in the country, the conditions under which the elections will be held, the Democratic Party program and the problems troubling the Durrës electorate. At the center of his speech was the duty of the PPSH to present itself to the judgment of the people as the main responsible party for the extremely grave condition in which the country finds itself after 46 years of rule.
He dwelt at length on the failure of economic reform, on the absurdity of continuing totalitarianism in the face of the country's isolation and the people's misery, on the PPSH's slanders against the opposition, and on its attempt to manipulate the March 31 elections. The Democratic Party candidate, Dr. Sali Berisha, presented in summary form the economic program of this party. He called on voters to vote for the Democratic Party, as the only political force capable of taking the country out of its present catastrophic situation.
At the end of the rally, Dr. Sali Berisha answered the many questions from voters. Hundreds of raised hands, hundreds of fists and voices rose in their response: “Our votes are for you.”
The American government commits itself to supporting democratic forces in Albania
Interview with Dr. Sali Berisha and our editor

Question: You have just returned from the United States.
Can you tell us something about the purpose and assessment of your visit?
Doctor Berisha: My visit to the United States was at the invitation of the State Department and the U.S. Congress, as well as several American private foundations, with the aim of becoming more closely acquainted with the political parties in the United States and meeting with the highest representatives of President Bush’s administration and the American Congress, in order to present the program and views of the Democratic Party on the ways to establish democracy in Albania, on the situation and solution of the Kosovo problem, as well as on its role in Albania.
The visit also aimed to inform American public opinion about the situation in Albania. I can tell you with pleasure that, overall, this visit was very successful, especially with the high-level American administration, the Congress, and the public media.
Interest in developments in Albania and the desire of the American government to help it is great and serious.

Lorand Meço, Vladimir Veçi,
Arben Amani, Vjollca Syfi, Ed-
mond Haxhi, Fuce Godi, Gëz-
mir Mersini, etc., live in the "Ali Demi" neighborhood. They state:
On Sunday, apparently because of a failure, the electricity went out in our building.
Several times workers from the shift called on them to repair it, but they were met with insulting words, words that had to do with their wives and the honor of their families. This infuriated the residents.
Then around 8 p.m. the group of residents went out into the street and began hurling insulting words at the NGL in question, as well as at those cut-offs. NGL, took out a knife. After several residents were injured, he also drew a revolver and with gunshots killed citizen Afron Xhoxhi.
Relatives of the victim said that his body was seen by his workmates around 2 in the morning. When they went to the morgue to be notified, they took the body, shoved it into his house and said he was being escorted. When the family noticed that this was the body of their son and asked to take him away, the general secretary, Pjerazin, shouted at them and threatened: "you must not open your mouth."
They will all tell foreign organizations and foreign television that the girl was shot and then died. She will be presented as having been raped. All of this is a slander and fabrication by the authorities to cover up the crime.
In the name of the infiltrators of the Labour Party

We are against any kind of communist analysis through theorizing and the possibility of debate in order to devalue and blacken the 46-year terror. Albania,
and besides this, let us not fabricate and push forward the doubt about the scale of this crime.
Enough already, even not merely declaratively. Albania is not poor, but miserable. The difference is great.
And misery was brought by communism.
If it appeared through the economic features of this misery, through its economic features, all the more so through its spirit. Albania is the spirit that it has blackened and desecrated to the point of slavery, of the body, of being. When you have written about a crime, you are obliged to reflect it in all its ugliness. Such is communism.
Dr. Gramoz Pashko has given a very simple explanation. The sincere opinion with which he said that the mode and some people who did not want to stop by joining the communists until they got posts, stood somewhat lower. They did not withdraw, consciousness creates renunciation, the consequences of catastrophe.
Prime Minister Ylli Bufi is no longer showing himself as the former one, as before, by the cadres of the PPSH itself, who promised everything and said nothing. Now he is really showing that communism is at the end of its strength and that it can do nothing but throw as much mud as possible against the Democratic Party. We explain in this way also those hostile writings and gestures that appeared from several institutions and circles.

and the censored statements

At the meeting with the deputy chairman
of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano,
regarding the development of the election campaign in
the district of Peshkopia on the instructions of the Socialist Party, the deputy chairman
at the Ministry of Internal Affairs in
Peshkopia, Hekuran Isai, spoke
with the district activist and made
a speech from the district administration.
Such a speech was also made in Peshkopia where Fatos Nano
declared that he would win with 75
percent of the vote. Fatos Nano declares that
the Socialist Party of Albania will take
70 percent of the vote in the north.
Such collaboration with the prefecture and local administration for
the PSH campaign represents a lack of pluralism and clearly shows that the campaign
is being conducted by police and administrative order.
He spoke with anti-Albanian professional tones, saying that PDSH was supposedly the Democratic Party of Albania advised by Americans, Germans, French,
etc., which at the end of the speech was accompanied by the question: how is it possible that Arben Xhajka, Arben Imami, Sokol Oldashi, Ilir Bocka, Sabri Godo and Gramoz Pashko should tell us how Albania should move forward.

In Albania the cry was that the people were being displaced
In response to the situation of the pro-populist developments
We were informed about a witness-
statement from Tira-
në. Together with other de-
putants in the U.S.A., they submitted a request to the U.S. government to obtain political asylum and have them sent to the United States. Their goal,
as they said, is to have a safer life and to live in a country with a higher standard of living than Albania. It is
possible that there will be others who will
seek to leave Albania, while the authorities are escalating
the situation in the country with repressive measures.

Regrettable!
We stand behind every word this disinformation and the fact that such disinformation with such an accusation from ZP, in the official pre-election outlets, is immoral for those who spread it. That is the first thing.
What may shock us more is something else. Those who incriminate the Democratic Party as the cause of the unrest in the district and of the killings are not high-ranking cadres, but people without moral substance, without spiritual clarity, capable only of slandering on a grand scale. They were even incited by being ordered late at night.
If it is true that Dr. Sali Berisha, together with Democratic Party candidates, entered workplaces without permission, regardless of the fact that according to their own words there is permission from the Central Election Commission, and that they spoke with people during working hours, then all of this is condemnable. But even more condemnable is the brutal and bestial violence against Democratic Party candidates by violent and ignorant people, on high orders.
Not even governments that have gone through a dictatorship born from elections have brought onto the scene behavior of this kind from people who, just days earlier, had greeted them and cheered them. This is regrettable.
Desperate scribblers
RD correspondent
After the voices of the people were drowned out, the latest work of the communist government and of all its administration is the beginning of slanders against the Democratic Party. This time, the scene was set in the district tax office, where several pseudo-journalists appointed by order from above launched insults and abusive words at Dr. Sali Berisha, who had gone to Peshkopia to meet with his voters. The district tax office was filled with activists of the Labour Party, workers and students, all of whom had been left without their tasks in order to fill the hall. This scene was repeated in the cinema too, where people were gathered by force and by order. But after the meeting with Dr. Sali Berisha, the people of Peshkopia spontaneously came out in his defense. Such is the morale of the citizens of Peshkopia, who know that only the Democratic Party will bring them out of misery.
For the figure of Dr. Sali Berisha, such voices have no importance. But in the final view this shows even more clearly that the propaganda machine of the Labour Party is rotten and incapable of facing the truth.
A new party is being born
