Gratitude in honor of the great friend

The words and especially the force of the arguments of the U.S. Department of State have the greatest place in the reassessment of the troubled respect of a people toward the figure of President Bush. This change, even if only as an image in the eyes of the heart of this people, has become possible and tangible only after the arrival and the decision of the United States, which, through the care and seriousness of Mr. James Baker, seeks to mend the great historical wound in the order and justice of Albania. Yesterday at Rinas airport and in the squares and streets of Tirana, students, citizens, and the people showed solidarity with tears and enthusiasm with Mr. Baker, with America, with freedom. There are hundreds of thousands of people who filled the boulevard, in front of the Palace of Culture, Skanderbeg Square, the squares and streets of Tirana, to greet the great friend. In this way, the people of Tirana and all of Albania expressed not only their gratitude in the most heartfelt manner, but also their wish to see the country free, democratic, and European. This extraordinary reception of Mr. James Baker was a powerful political demonstration by this people for democracy, for the United States, for Albanian-American friendship, and for Albania’s European future. The welcome was at the same time also a response to those who still doubt the Western orientation of the Albanian nation. [Unreadable parts?]

A historic day for Albania

INTERVIEW with Dr. Sali BERISHA On the day when the Albanian people reserved for the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. James Baker, a magnificent reception, the chairman of the Democratic Party, Dr. Sali Berisha, declared: – Today the Albanian people as a whole experienced the deepest emotions of its national existence. I am recalling these thousands and thousands of people with flowers in their hands, tears of joy and joy flowing like a torrent toward the great friend. Hundreds of thousands of citizens of Tirana and of all Albania were waiting for the American Secretary of State and, through him, the United States, to show their determination for freedom, for democracy, for the market economy and for the integration of the country into Europe. [text partially unreadable] ... We all felt that yesterday Albania finally broke with its bitter past. Albania will move along the path of democracy and freedom. The day after this visit our country will no longer be the one it was yesterday.

PD - a political force with international prestige

Since the ideas of freedom and political pluralism were born in Albania, especially in recent times, the Democratic Party has increasingly gained prestige, weight, and respect in the broader Albanian public opinion. These values have risen even more with the recent political developments, with the support received from international opinion and with the interest shown by high personalities of world politics in Albania and Albanian democracy.
