At 10 o'clock on 7 December 1991, the Democratic Party information office presented public information through a press conference by its chairman, Dr. Sali Berisha. At this press conference he presented to journalists the decision of the Presidency of the Democratic Party to submit to the President of the Republic a new project for solving the government crisis.
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Dr. Sali Berisha, declared that representatives of the Democratic Party had been ready to take part in the meeting called by the president, but under the conditions that the Democratic Party's proposal to participate as a political force with full rights had not been accepted, this party had decided to publicly present its alternative.
According to the statement, the Democratic Party proposes a solution based on respect for political pluralism, the creation of a broad-based government, and the guarantee of free and fair elections. It was emphasized that the crisis cannot be resolved through imposition, nor by sidelining the main parties from decision-making.
At the press conference it was underlined that the country is in a severe economic and political situation and that a high level of responsibility is required from all political forces. The Presidency of the PD calls on state institutions to take urgent measures for stability and for the protection of the public interest.
The statement expresses the Democratic Party's readiness to cooperate in a consensual solution, while respecting democratic principles and the will of the citizens. It stresses that any lasting solution must be based on legality, transparency and fair political representation.
