THE PS SPOKESPERSON IN THE ROLE OF AN AMBASSADOR
— VIOLENCE, CHRONIC HATRED, REVISIONISM FOR THE OPPOSITION PARTIES —
In the PS television statement last night, Mr. Namik Dokle began to read the declaration after opening with the usual “remark” that the newspaper “Rilindja Demokratike” had given publicity to the right-wing forces, allegedly handing the Italian ambassador the exact text of yesterday’s PS declaration. This same gentleman, the PS spokesperson, informed us how he was used on state television by this political subject. Further on in this statement we heard that the PS continues to try to present itself as “the only political force that firmly condemns vandalistic acts.”
In fact, the opposite is happening. All the facts of recent days prove that the leaders of this party have become instigators of hatred and political revenge and, through this climate, are also encouraging violent acts. The examples are numerous and need no comment.
While Mr. Dokle accuses the PD and our newspaper of “trying to cover up the serious facts with noise,” it is precisely the PS that is trying to conceal its political responsibility with rhetoric. Instead of clearly distancing itself from violence, it seeks to attack the opposition and the free press.
This way of behaving cannot hide this party’s internal crisis, nor its failure to provide calm and understanding. Albanians are tired of the language of hatred and of attempts to bring back the old climate of division.
Our newsroom remains determined to give the public the truth, regardless of insinuations and attempts at intimidation.

STATEMENT
Propagandist of Vorio-Epirote chauvinism
The interview of Thuodor Bërxista in the “Neë York Times” is alarming and mostly untrue — invalid
The central electoral headquarters of the Democratic Party is following with indignation the news about the interview of Thuodor Bërxista in the American newspaper “Neë York Times”.
All the accusations and claims made there constitute a tendentious distortion of Albanian reality and an attempt to damage Albania’s image on the eve of the elections.
Mr. Bërxista’s statement is essentially a well-known propaganda line of Vorio-Epirote chauvinist circles, which seek to present the Greek minority in Albania as insecure and threatened, at a time when this minority enjoys full constitutional and civic rights.
The Democratic Party considers this interview an irresponsible political act, contrary to national interests and to efforts for democratic stability.
We call on public opinion at home and abroad not to fall prey to these fabrications.

VICTIM OF THE DICTATORSHIP
TRIBUNE OF DEMOCRACY
Filip Çakuli
Because of his serious health condition, Sali Kelmendi was unable to take part in yesterday’s rally, but he sent a brief greeting in which he recalls his suffering under the dictatorship and calls on the people not to leave Albania in the hands of those who brought it to this state.
He emphasizes that prisons and internment could not break his faith in freedom and democracy. Today, he says, Albania needs civic courage and unity against the return of the past.
His message was met with applause and emotion by those present.

WE SPEAK OF THE ALBANIAN MAN
OPINIONS
We were greatly disappointed,
as our daily paper,
we have grown ashamed to call you
in the voice of our world.
You have sown fear and hatred,
you have extinguished hope and light,
but in Albanian hearts
the pure word never dies.
History will not forgive you,
neither the grave, nor the earth, nor time,
when you raised against the nation
mist, blood, and calamity.
We speak of the Albanian man,
with a pure spirit, without deceit,
for freedom does not come with violence,
but with faith and courage.

AMG INTERNACIONAL IN ALBANIA
During the days of 28, 29, 30 and 31 December 1991, the AMG INTERNACIONAL mission carried out an extensive inspection in Albania at the invitation of the foreign department of the Democratic Party of Albania.
The mission was headed by Mr. Peppe Della Schiava, president of the Federation of Italian Liberals, and its members were Fausto Torsello, chemical engineer; Pedro Censori, doctor; Antonio Hujco, journalist for “Giornale del Popolo”; Mario Meli, lawyer; Enzo Mardini, entrepreneur.
The delegation visited Tirana, Durrës, Kavaja, Kruja, Shkodra and Lezha. In meetings with citizens and local leaders, it took an interest in the economic situation, supplies, health care and the functioning of institutions.
At the end, the mission expressed the view that Albania is entering a new democratic phase and that Western aid should be increased to support the transition.
