PD AND PS IN THE ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN
They have once again appeared as an expression of the parliamentary necessity for governing coalitions. Democracy is regarded as co-government and co-responsibility. In periods of social and political crises, these elements are magnified. In all times and in all countries, coalitions have been sought when stability is lacking and there are pronounced social divisions. They have found application in mature democratic societies, but also in immature societies in order to overcome temporary crises.
The first figures that are in the hands of genuine democratic voters show a convincing strengthening of the Democratic Party and a marked weakening of the Socialist Party. These developments make it clearer that the solution to the current crisis will be linked to the election result and to the way that result is accepted.
If this acceptance is made as a re-establishment of the normal rules of the parliamentary game, then the prospect of stabilization will open. If an attempt is made through tension or political manipulation, the country will once again enter a phase of uncertainty.
Alliances, rhetoric, and mutual accusations have become the main tool of the campaign days. But citizens are judging more on the basis of governance experience and on the real possibility of emerging from economic and moral difficulties.
Parties are measured not only by promises, but by recent history, by stability, and by responsibility toward the country.
