The visit of President Sali Berisha to the government of Kavaja[?]
Speaking about the general policy of the government, the President of Albania and chairman of the Democratic Party, Aleksandër Meksi, stressed the need to maintain political stability and avoid any conflict. He said that the democratic government is determined to implement economic reform and that this reform takes time. In this context, he underlined the need for understanding and cooperation from all layers of the population.
He dwelt in particular on the difficulties inherited from the former system and on the measures that must be taken to overcome the crisis. It was said that the Albanian economy has entered a new phase, where responsibilities are shared and where the country needs order, calm, and work.
In his speech he also mentioned the problems of supply, transport, privatization, and the law, stressing that reforms cannot produce immediate results, but are the only way out of the difficult situation. He asked for the support of citizens and especially of the local administration in strictly following government decisions.

In the President's speech, emphasis was also placed on relations with neighbors, respect for human rights, and the government's commitment to establishing the rule of law.

In a meeting held with representatives of the press, issues of cooperation and relations between the political forces were discussed. The need for stability and support for the reforms undertaken by the democratic government was emphasized.
There was also discussion of the activity of the Democratic Party in the districts and of strengthening its structures. The importance of communication with the base and with the electorate in the conditions of rapid political developments was underlined.
Mr. Eduard Selami also took part in the meeting.
