The visit of President Sali Berisha to the government of Kavaja[...] The visit of President Sali Berisha to the government of Kavaja[?] Speaking about the general policy of the government, the President of Albania and chairman of the Democratic Party, Aleksandër Meksi, stressed the need to maintain political stability and avoid any conflict. He said that the democratic government is determined to implement economic reform and that this reform takes time. In this context, he underlined the need for understanding and cooperation from all layers of the population. He dwelt in particular on the difficulties inherited from the former system and on the measures that must be taken to overcome the crisis. It was said that the Albanian economy has entered a new phase, where responsibilities are shared and where the country needs order, calm, and work. In his speech he also mentioned the problems of supply, transport, privatization, and the law, stressing that reforms cannot produce immediate results, but are the only way out of the difficult situation. He asked for the support of citizens and especially of the local administration in strictly following government decisions. The discussions highlighted the shortage of raw materials and the need for better coordination between central and local bodies.
