Opponents or saboteurs?
- Response of the Greek press to the statement of Z.P. dated 9.6.1992 -
These comments, taken from Greek magazines and newspapers, clearly show the tendency of Greek and Serbian chauvinist circles to undermine and damage democratic processes in Albania. Apparently, not even the Yugoslavs expected the Greek press to sink to such vulgar levels. Here is what the newspaper «Apojevmatini» wrote on 6 June:
«With every likelihood, Greece’s envoy to the meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union will not be forced to repeat the absurd decision of the Mitsotakis government, under which the official recognition of the neighboring state was linked to an unofficial letter stating that that country has no territorial claims against Greece. The decision of the Mitropolit [ ? ] government was absurd, since no country in the world has asked Albania for such a certificate. It was simply formulated too late, at the very moment when the national conscience of the Albanian people had been ignited by the demagogues of anti-Albanian hatred.»
After this, «Apojevmatini» continues: «Whoever does not know the press of Tirana and speaks and writes throughout Europe, even losing the respect of friends, that nationalism and anti-Europeanism have supposedly broken out in Tirana, is either telling untruths or is the victim of some psychological disorder.»
Meanwhile, «I Kathimerini» writes: «The real PDS and its organizations are trying to return to the scene. These are the same ones who still do not renounce the methods used to destroy the hope of an entire people.»
The Greek newspaper «Elefteros Tipos» asks the Greek government not to fall prey to provocations and to maintain a realistic attitude toward the new Albania.
A deafening uproar for the tripartite coalition
Republic
In all the conservative-socialist press, the old and backwards way of thinking is making it completely clear that it is opposed to Albanian democracy. Regarding the extremist and neo-communist political desire to undo the free and honest opposition, a series of articles and commentaries have appeared in recent days aiming to create a new front against the government and the President.
The parties that yesterday spoke of pluralism are now dealing with dark combinations, narrow calculations, and propaganda to create a forced coalition. This uproar has nothing in common with the national interest.
Those who seek to present this as a serious alternative are in fact trying to sabotage the democratic process and relativize the will of the voters.
These maneuvers cannot conceal the moral and political failure of those who lost the people’s trust.
This much-discussed coalition, if it takes shape, will remain a temporary union of interests and not a platform for Albania.
“The Socialist” Can’t Stop Biographizing Anymore!
“The Socialist”
Can’t Stop Biographizing Anymore!
On 4 June, yesterday’s opposition newspaper «Socialisti» published a long article in which it tried to revive the language of files, labeling, and biographies. Instead of political debate, it chose to catalog people according to their origin and family ties.
This way of writing reminds the public of well-known practices from the past, which Albanians have rejected through both vote and conviction.
If a newspaper claims to speak in the name of the modern left, it cannot become a tribune of class prejudice.
Albania needs program, ideas, and responsibility, not files, insinuations, and biographism.

“What Should the Congress Clarify...”
A criticism from the people’s man ...
Returning to the theses presented in the organ «Socialisti», the author of this reply underlines that the congress should not deal with recycling figures and nostalgia for the PPSH, but with a final break from the totalitarian past.
According to him, the majority of delegates expect real reform, not empty rhetoric.

Veterans and the Law on Weapons
WHOEVER SERVED STALIN AND THE DICTATORSHIP HAS NO RIGHT TO DEFEND THE WAR
From our correspondent [?]
A group of so-called veterans’ organizations and committees have begun to come out in defense of an old law, demanding weapons and privileges in the name of the war. In fact, this debate has been used politically to create tension and to feed totalitarian nostalgia.
Many of those who speak today in the name of history were yesterday servants of a system that oppressed the country and left it without freedom.
Therefore, the law on weapons cannot be treated as a matter of political sentimentality, but as a problem of democratic order and public safety.
