RESOLUTION

of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Albania on the situation in the Balkan region and measures to prevent Serbia’s attacks against Albania and Kosovo The People's Assembly of the Republic of Albania on the situation in the Balkan region and measures to prevent Serbia’s attacks against Albania and Kosovo Taking into account the grave danger posed to our country by the extremely tense situation in the Balkans and especially in Yugoslavia, as well as by Serbia’s expansionist and chauvinist policy toward Albania and Kosovo; Considering that the dramatic developments in the former Yugoslavia, where genocide and ethnic cleansing are being carried out against the innocent population, represent a serious threat to peace and security in the region; Taking into consideration the hostile statements and actions of the Serbian leadership, the provocations on Albania’s northern borders, and the threats against Albanians in Kosovo; The People's Assembly strongly condemns Serbia’s aggressive policy, military intervention, and terror against Albanian populations; It calls on international bodies, the United Nations, the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other European institutions to take immediate measures to stop Serbian aggression and to guarantee the national and human rights of Albanians in Kosovo; It expresses the determination of the Albanian people to defend the freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Albania; It appeals to all political and social forces in the country for national unity in the face of the danger threatening Albania and the entire Albanian nation; It charges the Council of Ministers and the relevant state bodies with taking all necessary political, diplomatic, economic, and military measures to confront any attack or provocation against our country. A HISTORIC MOMENT in Albania’s relations with the KFA

Yesterday in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Conference began, in which our country is taking part for the first time. At the opening ceremony, heads of state and delegations from various Islamic countries were present. The Albanian delegation is headed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha. As part of this visit, President Berisha held meetings with senior figures of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and of the Islamic Conference. The importance of expanding Albania’s relations with Arab and Muslim countries was emphasized, as well as the support they can provide for our country’s economic recovery. The debate focused on the deputies’ position, the absence of some of them from the hall, and the way decisions were being made. The German embassy informs:

Yesterday, Thursday, 29.11.1992, a charter flight arrived at Rinas airport specifically for the return of Albanian asylum seekers in Germany. They were 7,000 residents; 50 people had submitted an application for political asylum; 170 other applicants are being returned; the rest will remain in a closed school; [?] [Text very unclear; reading is fragmentary.]
