Yesterday, throughout the day, the proceedings of the National Council of the Democratic Party were held. In the first part of the meeting, the platform of this party’s parliamentary group was examined. At the opening of the proceedings, the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, was present, and in his speech he emphasized the need to increase the role of the PD deputies in parliament. He asked that this group always be equal to the demands of the time and represent the will of the democratic electorate. The proceedings continued with discussion of the party’s internal organization and the strengthening of its structures in the districts. It was stressed that the shortcomings up to now must be overcome, the responsibility of local leaders must be increased, and the connection with the base must be strengthened. In his speech, Mr. Azem Hajdari emphasized that the PD must preserve its anti-communist spirit and remain united in the face of difficulties. Meanwhile, Mr. Eduard Selami focused on the importance of organizational discipline and open debate within the party forums. In the end, a resolution was approved defining the main tasks for the coming period, and it was left for specific issues to be dealt with in future meetings.
