For the stabilization of the situation in the flooded areas

FROM THE MEETING OF THE GOVERNMENT COMMISSION APA Today, 4 December, the People's Assembly will examine and decide on the law and the normative act that the government has issued to deal with the damage caused by the flood. The Government Commission for Dealing with the Consequences of the Natural Disaster, chaired by Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, held its regular meeting yesterday, where the situation in the flooded areas was analyzed. According to information presented by the ministries and prefectures, the situation is moving toward normalization, although serious problems still remain in housing, food supply, and the provisioning of the population. At the meeting it was emphasized that work on evacuating and relocating the affected families has improved, while the distribution of food and clothing aid is continuing. It was requested that state structures become more operational and better coordinate their actions with local government. The state of food reserves, drinking water supply, medicines, and material resources for handling the situation was also analyzed. The need to speed up the return of families to their homes where this is possible was underlined. The condition of embankments, drainage canals, and pumping stations was discussed, as well as the measures that need to be taken to prevent further flooding in the event of new rainfall. In conclusion, the commission asked all ministries and local authorities to continue working without interruption to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.
