NOT ONLY TO NOTE, but to rise up TO CORRECT AND ACHIEVE

NOT ONLY TO NOTE, but to rise up to CORRECT AND ACHIEVE The opposition’s latest manner of political action in parliament, its debates against the government on the country’s main problems, the way it opposes the government, the accusations it levels, has recently become a topic of conversation not only in political circles but also among the broad masses of the people. At first glance it seems that the findings, criticisms and accusations are among the harshest that can be made in parliament, even in the opposition’s own press. But curiously, this harshness in the statement of facts and in condemnation is not carried through to the actions that should be taken. The opposition and its press strongly attack the government for not implementing its program, for lacking vision and a plan, for being incapable of delivering on what it has promised; but when it comes to concrete action in parliament or through other democratic means, almost everything remains at the level of moral pressure. What stands out is that a good part of the debates are limited to denouncing the situation: the fall in production, supply difficulties, the financial crisis, rising prices and the blow being dealt to poorer strata. All of this is true and must be said. But the people expect not only to hear what is going wrong, but also to see what is being done to restore normality. If, in fact, the proclaimed program was right and the path of the market and reform is the right path, then greater persistence is needed in implementing it, more organization, greater ability to create the mechanisms that make the economy function. It is not enough to say that this government is not implementing the program. It is necessary to demand accountability forcefully, to demand deadlines, to demand concrete responsibilities and, above all, to create a political climate in which every delay receives the response it deserves. Otherwise we risk remaining only at the level of rhetoric. And our people are tired of rhetoric. They want bread, order, work and security. They want words to be turned into deeds. If we note things correctly, but do not rise up to correct and achieve, then the observation remains incomplete and fruitless.
