“WE THINK THAT ONLY NATO CAN PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE CONFLICT”

President Boris Yeltsin visits Vienna. Shaken by the passivity of the Western Community in the face of the unfolding Serbian expansionist policy in Yugoslavia, they are calling for greater active involvement by NATO in order to stop the war in the Balkans. For his part, Austrian President T. Klestil, in his meeting with Russian President B. Yeltsin, pointed out that Austria considers itself directly affected by the military conflict in Yugoslavia. “We think that only NATO can prevent the spread of the conflict to the north and east,” he said at the press conference before the departure of Russian President Yeltsin for Moscow. “In the continuity of President Klestil, we are trying to raise the issue of what the European Community can do to help our region,” said Austrian Foreign Minister Alois Mock. According to him, Austria remains committed to the recognition of Slovenia and Croatia and even Bosnia-Herzegovina, and to supporting NATO action to preserve peace. As an independent and neutral country, Austria cannot intervene militarily, but it can make a contribution through political and humanitarian actions. Yeltsin’s visit to Vienna took place in a tense atmosphere because of the crisis in the former Yugoslavia and the debate over the role of Russia and the West in it. (text partly illegible[?])

THE SOCIALIST PARTY NEEDS TO LEARN TO REMAIN IN OPPOSITION

Meeting of the chairman of the PD, Mr. Eduard Selami, with the Qiriazi sisters. Mr. Selami described the meeting with the two Qiriazi sisters as a great and important event. “We are proud of the contribution that the Qiriazi family has made to our national history and to the emancipation of Albanian society,” he said. Mr. Selami said that the Democratic Party is the force that brought pluralism and democracy to Albania and that it remains determined to continue on the path of reforms and the consolidation of democratic institutions. He pointed out that the old political forces, now represented by the Socialist Party, have still not adapted to the new pluralist reality and often seek to bring back practices from the past. “The Socialist Party needs to learn to remain in opposition,” Mr. Selami said. The meeting also discussed the contribution of Albanian women to education, culture and the national movement. The Qiriazi sisters were praised as outstanding figures in our history and as a symbol of civilization and progress. The participants expressed their confidence that Albania will move forward on the democratic path and that the younger generations will learn from the examples of patriotic families. Zano’s fiscal wound

With this non-payment, the current government is being effectively ensured an interest in mandatory exports; therefore a fiscal inspection was carried out in the industrial production unit of SA Zano and they were fined, contrary to legal provisions, 350 million lek. These measures severely damage the company’s production and activity and fuel social tensions. According to its management, the company is facing difficulties in securing raw materials, in credit access and in trade. Moreover, the fiscal penalties are driving it toward bankruptcy.
