SPECIAL POLITICAL AND MILITARY RELATIONS Mr. Paolo Veneri arrives in our country today, first secretary of the Italian Embassy in Tirana, specialist in the field of political and military relations with our country. He is the successor to Mr. Francesco Pasquini, who is leaving Albania after a 2-year period of stay in our country. The Italian ambassador in our country, Mr. Paolo Foresti, presented to Mr. Veneri the important duties of Albanian-Italian cooperation in the field of politics and military relations. At the conclusion of these talks Mr. Veneri met Albanian journalists and answered their questions. Paolo Veneri said that Italy will continue to be one of Albania's main partners in Europe and that political and military support will deepen.

They discussed relations between the two countries and the expansion of cooperation in various fields. In particular, emphasis was placed on Italian aid for Albania and on investments in the economy. Mr. Arbnori appreciated the support that Italy has given to democratic processes in the country.

Accompanied on behalf of the popular newspaper of the Assembly, Mr. Arbnori held a working meeting with a delegation of international monitors. At the center of the discussion was the social situation and the role of trade unions in the country. Wages, strikes and the need for dialogue with the government were discussed. Representatives of the trade unions presented their concerns about economic conditions and rising prices. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

In the cement production sector, construction will soon begin on a modern plant in Fushë-Krujë, which will have a production capacity of 800 thousand tons per year. Market and raw-material studies are currently being carried out by Italian investors. Talks with the Albanian side have been completed and, most likely, the Italian company that will build this cement factory will begin work in June. In the production sector for construction materials, specialists will soon arrive to complete the final on-site study. The start of a joint investment in the production of bricks and ceramics is expected. Very soon final decisions will also be made on investments in the food industry and wood processing.
