The PEOPLE no longer believe the DECEIVERS OF 52 YEARS
It knows how to speak with its own mouth and vote
In the disoriented strongholds of power, their seven corpses are breathing their last. The final gasps can be felt from afar. All their efforts through demonstrations organized on party orders have met with open noncompliance and universal contempt. The people, tired after 46 years of suffering and two years of transition, now see that what is falling is not democracy but communism. They proved this by boycotting the 26 August demonstration. Apart from a few pensioners and an occasional porter or laborer for the PPSH, turnout was extremely poor, entirely feeble compared with what the organizers and the tribune speakers had expected. Equally feeble was the turnout brought in by buses from the districts for what the communists had, for days on end, called “the great demonstration of the people.”
The fact that the broad mass of the people did not come out, the direct indifference of poor people without social protection, of exhausted and disappointed pensioners and of every other category, clearly shows that they have begun to feel with bitterness and contempt the ordinary deception of Nano and his comrades. This also shows that the political parrots of the tribunes are losing, day by day, their power of influence over people. By refusing to take part in the demonstration ordered from above, and also by refusing to be used to justify the power struggle of Nano, Xhuveli and others like them, ordinary people are at the same time showing that they no longer care about the losers of 22 March.
The rally the communists organized two days ago was truly a complete failure. Only the TV cameras and cameramen of the party television could hide this from the people. Television cameras and telephoto lenses can expose only what is in front of the tribune. They cannot show the huge empty spaces before and beside it. The voices that spoke from the tribunes were not the voice of this people. They were only a cacophony of despair and brutal political command. The voices that wanted to fill others with hatred and despair remained voices without echo, drowned out by the deafness of the tribune itself.
In the name of the people, those who oppressed them for 46 years can no longer speak. Those who used the people as cannon fodder and drove them toward economic and moral abyss cannot say that they are with the people. Those who for decades denied them the simplest human freedoms, isolated them from the world, and plunged them into the hell of poverty can no longer present themselves as the people's defenders. Therefore, the boycott of 26 August was more than the boycott of a rally; it was the moral and political rejection of a past that seeks to be reborn.
The people today know who impoverished them, who persecuted them, who killed hope. And for that reason they cannot once again follow the apostles of deception. Those who speak today of democracy, yesterday called free speech a crime. Those who speak today of the people, yesterday considered the people a submissive crowd. Those who demand justice today, yesterday built an entire system of injustice. That is why people no longer follow the PPSH, why its tribunes are deserted and why its calls fall into emptiness.
