Since it became apparent that the policy of appearances would contribute to alignments in government with new and old partners, the promise to keep the chair, and the absurd stance, with dense clarity, of the leadership clique of this party regarding the coalition issue, it became clear that this political force was entering the phase of crisis transition. Its attempt to become the third factor in the game was failing in the face of the two major forces. It could not have been otherwise when a party that built its program on open demagoguery, on the insult and denial of all democratic institutions, on false anti-communism and chaotic populism, would come face to face with a reality in which clear positions and concrete responsibility were required. Against this backdrop, the recent noise inside PAD has nothing to do with any major programmatic concern, but with thirst for posts, clashes over influence, and deals that are not going according to the wishes of some leaders. All this is being presented as a political drama, when in reality it is the ordinary expression of the careerism that is devouring this entity. All those who until yesterday posed as puritans of oppositionism now show how quickly they can change language, flags and alliances when a better chair appears before them. Instead of behaving like a responsible force, PAD leaders are choosing the rhetoric of victimhood, harsh language toward opponents, and confusion toward their own electorate. They accuse everyone, but answer for nothing. They speak of moral standards, but show an astonishing readiness for dishonest compromises. They demand public respect, but do not display even the minimum of political coherence. If this party had before it an important and advantageous post, would its leaders act differently? Hard to believe. The signs so far indicate not. On the contrary, everything shows that they would be willing to make even more concessions, as long as they secured their place on the stage. The PLSP has long denounced these forces, describing them as groupings with no foundation and no prospects.
