A BAD TIME FOR PS

(Continued on page 2) The socialists’ oppositional beginning has brought thousands of workers to confront the government against every democratic move. Because, as it is being presented by its own actions, it aims to play the role of the political force that tries to become the defender of the unprotected. In fact, the goal is not to solve the workers’ real problems, but to create unrest and psychological pressure on power. The socialist opposition led by Fatos Nano has turned protest into a stage for political spectacle. Instead of putting forward alternatives, it invests in slogans, accusations and tension. This way of acting shows not state-building responsibility, but a desire for quick political gain. Today, when Albania needs calm, work and reforms, PS is choosing the opposite path. It is trying to create the impression of a country on the verge of explosion, in the hope that chaos may serve as a springboard for a return. But this is an old calculation that citizens are increasingly rejecting.

NANO HAS NO RALLY OR GANG TO PROTECT HIM

When Enver Hoxha saw that the crowd begins to scatter, or to turn aggressively against the opponent, or the agony of dictators, the desperate attempts to force their way into history. Under the influence of Russia, the main ally of the PSSH, the left opposition is trying to present itself, through democratic currents, as the savior of Albania. After the failed attempt to bring 10,000 demonstrators into the square on 7 May, known as the “next victory,” it proved that its ranks have shrunk, that it has neither the spirit nor the cause of a serious political force, and now it seeks protection behind an imaginary enemy and a foreign figure. In order to make their failed rally as noisy as possible, the social-communist organizers are trying to dramatize the situation. They portray the country as engulfed in chaos, the state as powerless and the people as frightened. In this way they aim to revive the old psychology of the “savior.” But people have already understood who brought about the crisis and who is trying to use it for political gain. Not less and not more than they will also save the newly emerged soul of the ruling chief from the hands of the “bandits” by whom the Party of Labour oppressed and killed for decades. This is their true face: an alliance between the nostalgia for dictatorship and the manipulation of the crowd. They want democracy to be frightened by the shouting, but the age of fear is over.
