He said that the decision to postpone membership was not related to PDSH’s performance, but to the Greek veto. According to him, the Greek veto was contrary to the spirit of European cooperation and to the interests of regional stability. He emphasized that Albania cannot remain hostage to prejudices or to nationalist claims from certain circles in Greece. The chairman of PDSH expressed regret that such an issue was dealt with in an important international forum and asked that European opinion take a fair position toward Albania. He underlined that Albania’s path toward integration into European structures is irreversible and that PDSH will continue to work for the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law. In conclusion, he stated that the Greek veto will not affect the country’s European orientation, but will serve as an incentive to further strengthen ties with Western partners.
