At 10 o’clock that day, pr-[?] in the foreign relations office near the headquarters of the Democratic Party, a meeting was held with the delegation of CDU-CSU members of the German Bundestag, Dr. Erik Gehr[?], Dr. V. At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the PDSH foreign relations office, Mr. Saliani, gave a broad presentation of the PDSH’s activity as an opposition force in Albania. He stressed that, whereas until a few years ago political pluralism did not exist in Albania, even today there are political forces that oppose it and try to preserve old forms of rule. Mr. Saliani said that the PDSH is interested in broad cooperation with European Christian Democratic and conservative forces and especially with Germany’s CDU-CSU, as a major political and moral support for democratic developments in Albania. At this meeting it was made known that the PDSH considers economic cooperation with Germany important, not only because of investments, but also because of its experience in democratic transformation processes. The political situation in the country was also discussed, along with relations between the majority and the opposition, as well as the parliamentary climate. The Albanian side pointed out that political debate in Parliament must be civilized and oriented toward national interests, while verbal violence and artificial obstacles harm the normal functioning of institutions. In the end, it was underlined that the PDSH attaches particular importance to relations with the German Bundestag and with sister parties in Europe. The German delegation expressed interest in political and economic developments and in the prospects for further cooperation. (ATSH)
