ON THE TRAIL OF NANO’S ACROBATICS
The war of irresponsible demagogic activities by the parliamentary opposition is seriously damaging the climate of cooperation among Albanian political forces. The time has come for the protagonists and representatives of this opposition to think carefully about this wrong path they are following, if they truly want to contribute to the consolidation of democratic processes and the acceleration of economic reform.
All the data and statements made in recent days by representatives of the opposition support this conclusion. At the center of these positions is the chairman of the PS, Mr. Fatos Nano, with his irresponsible accusations and statements.
After assertions, slanders, and insinuations against the government, Mr. Nano has taken his political game to the absurd, declaring a few days ago that the rise in the price of bread was made by agreement between the government and the parliamentary opposition. It is known that the government has never had any agreement whatsoever with the opposition for such a measure. On the contrary, this is a decision forced by the economic situation and by the need to correct the distortions inherited from the centralized economy.
If Mr. Nano and his party still have not understood this, then that shows either a lack of seriousness or an intention to manipulate public opinion. This behavior is not new. It has been present in all his public appearances, where populism, demagoguery, and the attempt to win instant sympathy have replaced serious analysis and political responsibility.
Mr. Nano should know that political forces that undertake to lead the country cannot build their strategy on deceiving citizens. Albania needs clarity, responsibility, and support for reforms, not little political games that damage the public interest.
Under these conditions, the parliamentary opposition must abandon its destructive tactics and seriously engage in a political dialogue that serves the country. Only in this way can unnecessary clashes be avoided and a normal climate of cooperation created.
One thing is certain: the Albanian people can clearly tell the difference between constructive criticism and political acrobatics. And in this sense, Mr. Nano’s next acrobatics serve no one except the destabilization of the country’s political life.
