Cooperation with Turkey is an important priority of Albanian policy in the region

President Berisha during the conversation with the new ambassador of Turkey, Hikmet Çetin. President Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha received yesterday in a meeting the new ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Albania, Mr. Hikmet Çetin, on the occasion of the presentation of his credentials. At this meeting, the rapid development and intensification of the multifaceted relations between our two countries and peoples in the political, economic, trade, cultural and other fields were positively assessed. It was emphasized that these developments have traditionally been influenced by the bonds of Albanian-Turkish friendship and the common elements of the history, culture and traditions of both peoples. President Berisha gave a brief account of the current situation in Albania and of the efforts of the democratic government to consolidate and further develop the economic and democratic reforms in the country. He highly valued the role of Turkish assistance in the army, public order and in several economic fields. President Berisha expressed his conviction that Albanian-Turkish relations will continue to move forward in all directions. He also asked the new Turkish ambassador to convey to President Süleyman Demirel his heartfelt thanks for the multifaceted assistance that the Turkish government and people have given Albania in recent years. For his part, the new Turkish ambassador, Mr. Hikmet Çetin, after thanking President Berisha for the warm reception, praised Albania's commitment and achievements in the democratization processes, privatization and the creation of a market economy. Describing Albania as a factor of stability in the Balkans, he emphasized that the Turkish government and people will continue to provide their support to Albania in the democratic transformation processes. At the end of the meeting, the new ambassador of Turkey conveyed to President Berisha a message from President Süleyman Demirel, in which he invites Mr. Berisha to pay an official visit to Turkey. President Berisha gladly accepted the invitation and instructed Mr. Hikmet Çetin to convey to President Süleyman Demirel his most heartfelt greetings and his desire to welcome him in Albania.

According to President Berisha, our country highly values Albanian-Turkish friendship and considers it an important factor of stability in the region.
