CONCRETE STEPS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONS BETWEEN ALBANIA AND SLOVENIA
Press conference of the President of the Republic, Sali Berisha. Continuing his talks with his counterpart, the President of Slovenia, Mr. Milan Kučan, President Sali Berisha took part in an official luncheon held in his honor. Speaking about today's meeting, Mr. Berisha said: NATO was a topic of discussion, in which both presidents expressed themselves on Albania's future in the Euro-Atlantic structures. In our meeting, we said, even more important will be to decide on a rapid and broad development of relations between our two countries. We greatly value Slovenia's extraordinary progress in domestic and foreign policy. We look with admiration at the overcoming of great difficulties and the achievements in economic development. Mr. Kučan, President Berisha said, has expressed that Slovenia and Albania are the only countries of the former Yugoslavia that have not had territorial conflicts or national and ethnic conflicts. During the talks held, Slovenia expressed readiness to offer Albania expertise in the field of privatization, economic reforms, the free market, etc. President Berisha further said that he had received from President Kučan a letter inviting him on an official visit to Slovenia. Mr. Kučan sent President Berisha a special greeting from U.S. President Bill Clinton. President Berisha said that the talks held were fruitful and have opened new prospects for cooperation between the two countries. Going forward, President Berisha said, in addition to privatization, economic cooperation will also include the fields of industry, agriculture, transport, and trade. It was further emphasized that Albanians and Slovenes have a tradition of mutual understanding. In the end, President Berisha expressed his conviction that this visit will further strengthen relations between Albania and Slovenia.
PRESIDENT CLINTON EXPRESSES ADMIRATION FOR ALBANIA'S EFFORTS TOWARD REFORMS
In a message sent to President Berisha, U.S. President Bill Clinton praises the progress Albania has made in the direction of democratic and economic reforms. He expresses confidence that Albania is moving forward decisively toward building a free society and a market economy. President Clinton expresses admiration for the efforts being made by the Albanian people to overcome the difficulties of the transition and to build democratic institutions. The message underlines the importance of continuing reforms and cooperation with Western countries. The U.S. President expresses the wish that relations between the two countries be further strengthened in the future.
The Victory of the PD is a Victory for Albania
Yesterday, the country's president received at the headquarters of the Democratic Party a delegation from the European People's Party. At the meeting, the victory of the Democratic Party was assessed as a victory for Albania and for its European orientation. Those present expressed the conviction that the path of democratic reforms is irreversible. The delegation emphasized support for the democratization processes in the country and for strengthening pluralist institutions. The importance of relations with European political forces was also underlined.
