IS FATOS NANO GUILTY?

How the Italian aid intended for Albanians was handled, being obscured to the lowest degree as a whole, this was an assertion that began in government and circulated in recent months, thanks also to the profiteering moves around the Italian aid. Regarding this issue, Prime Minister Meksi described it as “moral and responsible” and told the Socialist Party representative in parliament that “there is no evidence whatsoever”. Since the beginning of this scandal in May 1993, Prime Minister Meksi and Deputy Prime Minister Ceka have stated that “there is no document showing that the government was implicated”. However, the materials presented in parliamentary sessions, as well as the documents published in the press, cast serious shadows over this issue. A dream for dictators...

In a group of PAD discussants who degenerated into PAD, an extraordinary disregard for public opinion is being shown. Even though some of these developments came to light after the 1992 elections, there still seems to be a strange nostalgia for the old ways of governing. Media linked to the old structures continue to throw mud on every effort at reform. There are articles and commentaries aimed not at debate, but at intimidating the political opponent. This is a mentality that does not serve democracy. Albanian society needs institutions, not “strong men”. If this trend is not stopped, then every electoral victory will be used as a pretext to suppress critical voices. (To be continued on page 7)

The first night of the 1993 song festival on RTSH

At 20:20 on 25 December, Radio Televizioni Shqiptar launched the 17th festival at the Palace of Congresses. Tonight will be the second night of the festival. The jury, chaired by N. Ceka, evaluates the competing songs while the audience follows the scenography and performances with interest. (To be continued on page 8)
