THE MISFORTUNES OF PERIKLI TETES
- A book from the world of crime. The cunning ones who spied on them for seven tigers
- A basin of corruption that helped them escape by a butterfly ship [?]
Through the data [?] of censorship in our country, before and after pluralism, many stories from times gone by have been uncovered, and they strikingly reflect the activity of some people holding high government posts and chairs. Today they are not only public, but also examples of the most criminal corruption and abuse ever known, and still known by our country in the light of facts that were not uncovered in time.
Many characters, with both real and invented names, replace real people in such books, yet the facts and events remain the same. Such are the main figures in the book "The Misfortunes of Perikli Tetes" by Zeqir Tali.
An absurd allusion to the identification of the book's main protagonist, a man who held high office at the time when he was Minister of Defence, former member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the Interior, appears in the book under the invented name Vehbi Berisha.
From the outset, even with simple intuition, the reader realizes that this refers to the former member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Albania, Hekuran Isai. The similarity between the character and the real man is clear in almost all his actions, down to the traits of his character and habits.
Or Mr. Alibej. The conference recently organized in the town of Bulqizë with the participation of the novel's main protagonist brings to mind the meeting organized by the former Minister of Defence Hekuran Isai in that same town, to lecture the miners with whom he had once been comrades, after leaving his village, Sllovë.
In fact, such a conference, as described in the pages of the book, does not seem to have taken place either in Bulqizë or in any other town. Nevertheless, it served the author to generalize and typify a piece of futile and meaningless, even absurd and ridiculous, activity by the cadres of that era across the districts.
Within this framework, he further develops the plot of a bribery scheme involving Hekuran Isai in order to buy a detergent powder factory in Skopje with gold, instead of a modernized coal plant that the same district needed. The author writes this story through an invented official correspondence, but one that in essence remains faithful to that reality in which private and clan interests were placed above the public interest.
In another episode, the atmosphere is created of a ship's departure through a network of corruption and political cover-up, in which people with power and high-level connections are implicated. This gives the article the tone of a direct accusation against the system and not merely against an individual.
It is precisely this overlap between the literary figure and the real figure that makes the book read like a roman à clef. The author does not name him directly, but leaves it to the reader to discover the character behind the mask of fiction.
Zeqir Tali, through this material, seeks to show how abuse of power, careerism, and political immorality produced not only crimes against the law but also a distortion of social life.
Our article cannot verify every detail given in this novel, but the clarity of the allusion and the many similarities make it clear whom the author means.

ALBRIGHT: THE USA APPRECIATE THE MODERATION AND WISDOM SHOWN BY ALBANIA...
- Her press conference held at the Palace of Congresses.
The concern of her special envoy Jon Shifrin and her replies, elsewhere interpreted differently, about the intervention of American military forces to prevent war in the former Yugoslavia.
The permanent U.S. representative to the UN, Ms. Medlin Ollbrajt, assessing from Tirana Albania's contribution to the problems of the region, said that she had expressed to the Albanian President, Sali Berisha, the American administration's appreciation that Albania was showing moderation, wisdom and restraint.
The Albanian President and his government have behaved with great maturity in the face of the difficulties of the war in the former Yugoslavia and the problems of Kosovo, said Ms. Ollbrajt at her conference with journalists at the Palace of Congresses.
In response to many questions about a report by CNN correspondent Jon Shifrin concerning the possibility of an American military intervention from the territory of Macedonia, Ollbrajt clarified that she was not speaking of an imminent military action, but of the American determination not to allow the conflict to spread.
She said that the USA are determined to work with their allies and with the United Nations to prevent the war from spreading and to protect regional stability.
Commenting on the situation in Kosovo, she stressed that the international community is following the situation with concern and that any escalation would bring serious consequences.
In this context, she valued the importance of the Albanian role and the restraint shown by the official authorities in Tirana.

"THE NANO AFFAIR" A FORCED UNITY OF THE PS
Once again, the Socialist Party has been served by a major scandal as proof of its unity. This time, however, there is a feature that distinguishes it from the other precedents. All the deputies of this party, without exception, signed a declaration in which they express solidarity with the chairman of the PS, Fatos Nano.
Beyond the content, the fact that such a declaration was signed by all Socialist deputies shows that the leadership of the PS has chosen to display internal cohesion at any cost. This happens at a moment when the "Nano affair" has created strong political shock and has put to the test relations among the leading figures of this force.
Whether this unity is natural or imposed by circumstances remains to be seen. But the demonstrative way in which solidarity was shown suggests more the need to cover up rifts than the presence of genuine harmony.
In the text of the declaration, the Socialists call the proceedings against Nano unjust and political, while presenting them as an attempt to strike at the opposition. On the other hand, their opponents see this reaction as automatic protection of the chairman, with no reflection at all on individual responsibilities.
This is precisely where the essence of the debate lies: are we dealing with an act of political conviction or with a unity forced by fear of weakening the party?
It remains clear that the PS, faced with this issue, is trying to preserve its public image and avoid any sign of division.

NO AID HAS BEEN BLOCKED FOR ALBANIA
- Declares Frederik Andrei, official at the EC Delegation in Tirana.
The President has not received any instruction for pressure on Rama to amend the Constitution...
The news from Brussels broadcast by Greek television under the headline "No aid is given to Albania" is a fabrication, while the claim that this is because of a lack of democracy in our country is a monstrous lie. These are the assessments of the official of the European Community Agency in Tirana, Frederik Andre, who calls the Greek television report a baseless slander.
Last night's report claimed that aid from the European Community had been blocked for Albania because of democratic shortcomings. According to Frederik Andre, not only does no such decision exist, but the usual aid procedures are continuing normally.
He states that there is no document, decision or official signal from Brussels supporting the report. On the contrary, contacts with the Albanian authorities and with EC structures confirm the continuation of cooperation programs.
Frederik Andre also rejects the insinuations according to which the Albanian President was asked to pressure Rama to amend the Constitution. According to him, no such instruction exists and mentioning it is part of the same disinformation campaign.
This reaction comes at a time when relations with European institutions are being followed with great attention by Albanian public opinion.
In this context, the EC official's statement aims to clarify an issue that has created confusion and numerous media speculations.
We are dealing with a categorical refutation of the broadcast news and a reaffirmation that aid to Albania has not been interrupted.
