“IF FATOS NANO IS NOT RELEASED, THEN THERE WILL BE COMPLICATIONS”

The PS threatens: “IF FATOS NANO IS NOT RELEASED, THEN THERE WILL BE COMPLICATIONS” This is said openly to our faces, Mr. Llazi Sinishta. The chair of the PS parliamentary group, yesterday, received instructions from the organizers of the demonstration. This time he is forgiven, and we are making an issue of it because his role and duty to oppose the government should be institutional. At the protest organized a few days ago in Namur [?] for the condemnation of Fatos Nano, that PS deputy, Mr. Llazi Sinishta, according to the Voice of America, declared that if any socialist were arrested, “then there will be complications.” First, it is not in our parliamentary tradition or in the governance of a country like this to hear such phrases. Second, he is a deputy of a party that governed the country for 45 years under a Stalinist dictatorship, and he cannot fail to understand that “complications” are not a tool of work in civilized countries. If he fears that at the next protests other members of his party may be arrested, that is a matter for the law-enforcement bodies and the court. No one can place themselves above the law. We are all equal before the law. If the PS wants to defend one of its own figures, let it do so with arguments and evidence, not with threats. Albania cannot go backwards into the language of political pressure and violence.

THE MEETING OF PRESIDENTS BERISHA AND RUGOVA

The President of the Republic of Albania, Sali Berisha, and the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, held talks yesterday during which the two Presidents discussed the situation in Kosovo. President Rugova, accompanied by members of the Kosovo delegation, was received as a distinguished guest by President Berisha. The two Presidents discussed the problem of Kosovo, which remains even today an open wound for Europe and the democratic world. President Berisha stressed that Kosovo’s problems can only be solved through political means. President Berisha described the American Senate resolution and the European Parliament resolution on Kosovo as documents of great importance. He stressed that the ethnic cleansing policy of the Belgrade regime in Kosovo and the democratic determination of the Albanian people of Kosovo for independence require a swift and peaceful solution. President Rugova stressed that the people of Kosovo are seeking independence and that the democratic path he has followed has won international support. The two Presidents expressed themselves in favor of increased contacts and further cooperation.

THE NANO AFFAIR, AND THE FABLE “THE FROG AND THE OX”

THE NANO AFFAIR, AND THE FABLE “THE FROG AND THE OX” In the pages of “Zëri socialist” and in various articles, the fable of “the frog and the ox” has often been used to compare the PS with its political opponents. This well-known literary figure is used to mock exaggerated claims and the artificial inflation of a political force. Much has been said these days about the figure of Fatos Nano and the PS. But any serious analysis must be based on facts, not rhetoric. In the tense political climate, such comparisons serve more as propaganda than as a clarification for public opinion. Public opinion needs calm, argument, and responsibility. Justice must act according to the law, without coercion and without pressure. Only in this way can the “complications” with which some political voices threaten be avoided.
