“The Nano Affair” will soon be only a “N Affair”
Today's special Italian press pays attention to the problem of an Albanian politician's imprisonment for corruption.
“THE NANO AFFAIR” WILL SOON
BE ONLY A “N AFFAIR”
-Defending Nano means defending corruption, the axis of the Socialist Party's policy-
Albania and, above all, the Albanian socialists have been drawn into a vortex of disinformation over the “Nano affair,” but this has not greatly affected the direction of Italian public opinion. In most articles in the Italian press, with the exception of those in “L'Unità”, it is stated that the criminal proceedings against former Prime Minister Nano are by no means a political matter.
“Thus, the Ministers and the more moderate members of the movement do not deny that Albanian prison, regardless of political color, can be the place for corrupt officials and violators of the constitution.”
There are many such cases and not only against the extremist wing supporting the PS, in “L'Unità”, where this constitutional right of Albanian politics and the independence of the judiciary is condemned. A large number of other articles are published in a much calmer tone. In many of them it is mentioned as an important fact that this is the first time in Albania that a former prime minister has been arrested on corruption charges.
It has been noted that some of the more moderate voices in Italian journalism consider the discussion of this issue to have been prolonged too long in Albanian opposition political circles and by part of the Italian press. For this reason, many comments emphasize that the “Nano affair” should not be turned into a pretext to cover up the real problems of reform and transition in Albania.
From this point of view, the “Nano affair” has also been seen as a test of the seriousness of the Albanian state and of the ability of its institutions to act according to the law, regardless of political pressure. In this sense, Nano's name is increasingly used as a political symbol, so the author suggests that soon this may remain only a “N affair”.

THE DRAFT LAW “ON THE

-Also on Parliament's agenda are the decree “On the protection of the serviceman” as well as
the draft law “On wages of employees and
on personal property”-
a) According to the agenda item for
today, the draft law “On the prosecutorial
council” and article
276/8 have been postponed to another session.
This is because the debate in principle considered this
draft law to be of very special importance,
for which more time and deeper preparation were needed.
