EDUARD SELAMI AND MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT IN THE SARANDË DISTRICT
-Konispol supported democracy because it had been continuously forgotten by the dictatorship.-
Members of our Presidency
Pepucit R. Peshkëpia, were received with enthusiasm and voters' demands since 22 March 1992
We will be loyal to the fulfillment of the promises made both in the program of the Democratic Party and in the government program. Whoever hinders or makes our work more difficult in these difficult conditions that we are going through, we will point out with our finger. This is how the chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Eduard Selami, expressed himself at the large meeting organized in the city of Sarandë with its citizens.
On Sunday morning, the Chairman of the PDSh, Mr. Eduard Selami, accompanied by the member of the Presidency of this party, Mr. Besnik Mustafaj, and the deputy of the area, Mr. Ylli Vejsiu, were at a meeting with the electorate of the Delvinë district. The meeting was also attended by the candidate for mayor Mr. Muharrem Xhelilaj, the candidate for commune chairman Mr. Kozma Kosta and the candidate for councilor of the District Council Mr. Spiro Jani. On the way to Sarandë, the delegation of the Democratic Party stopped in the village of Mursi, where it was greeted at an enthusiastic rally with the residents of this village. Then the delegation continued its journey toward Konispol, where the meeting organized in the city square gathered a large turnout. The people of Konispol had come from all the neighborhoods of the city and the surrounding villages. During his speech Mr. Selami addressed the participants with the customary greeting and focused on the problems troubling the area.
Gentlemen entrepreneurs
I have the pleasure of being among you and telling you candidly that the time has come for us to rectify once and for all the historical injustice done to this area. To live at the southernmost edge of the homeland and feel forgotten, underdeveloped and hopeless, this can no longer continue. Konispol has supported democracy not only for political reasons, but also because it believed that this path would take it out of isolation, poverty and the lack of investment. That is also why we have the moral and political duty to be close to you.
He stressed that the democratic government had started work in very difficult conditions, but would not shirk its responsibilities. He particularly dwelt on the problems of water supply, electricity, roads, transport, agricultural land and the encouragement of private activity. Selami said that the Democratic Party will be open to hearing any criticism and any legitimate request coming from citizens.
For their part, the participants raised many questions and requests, especially about the opening of jobs, improvement of infrastructure, aid for agriculture, and care for education and health. The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
