THE THREE-PARTY COALITION - A GUARANTEE FOR STABILITY
THE THREE-PARTY COALITION -
A GUARANTEE FOR STABILITY
Yesterday the second three-way meeting between the delegations of the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the National Front was successfully concluded in Vienna, where the representatives of these parties agreed in principle to create an electoral three-party coalition. According to the formula chosen in Vienna, this coalition was given the name “The United Right”.
P. K. from Vienna for “RD”
According to P. K., the joint statement underlines that the coalition will operate on the basis of the political programme of the Democratic Party, with some changes and amendments to be approved jointly by the three parties. This coalition has been considered necessary for the country’s stability and for facing the challenges awaiting Albania on the road to democratic reforms.
The new coalition is expected to contribute to the consolidation of the Albanian right wing and to winning the upcoming elections.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT BERISHA ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY
President Berisha awards the courage of the journalists Martin Leka, Aleksander Frangaj, Ilirian Bula and Shkryti Muka.[?]
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the President of the Republic has sent messages of congratulations and thanks to the leaders and editorial offices of the independent and free press, and expresses his gratitude to the journalists who were killed in the line of duty.
In a telegram sent to the newspaper “Koha Jonë”, the President writes:
“First of all I would like to express my respect for your courage and your civic and professional bravery, which you showed in the 80 new issues of this newspaper after its return, challenging blind and anti-democratic violence, respecting the law rigorously at every step and, above all, respecting the reader’s right to information that is free and independent of any censorship.
From the first day of publication of “Koha Jonë” until today, the management staff of this newspaper and often its entire staff have been under the constant and open threat of dark anti-democratic and neo-Enverist forces. Nevertheless, the leaders of this newspaper never gave in or bowed to violence and terror; they respected the law and made it respected. This has been and remains their choice.
I also declare that I value the work of the leaders and journalists of the independent opposition press in Albania and of the television station “Shijak TV”, who, by shedding light on political crime in Albania, carried out a major mission in the service of truth and democracy.
With respect,
Sali Berisha
President of the Republic”
PDSH CONSIDERS THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE ALBANIAN AUTOCEPHALOUS ORTHODOX CHURCH SACRED
- Statement by the Albanian Democratic Party
These days, all Albanian Orthodoxy celebrated Easter by greeting one another with “Christ is risen!”. This important religious day also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, which is one of the fundamental marks of Albanian national identity.
The Albanian Democratic Party considers the independence of this church sacred and supports all efforts by believers to preserve its national and spiritual character.
The statement condemns any foreign interference in the affairs of the Albanian Orthodox Church and calls for respect for tradition and canonical legality.

On the Nano-Alia meeting
-
The latest issue of the newspaper “Zëri i Popullit” contains the article “Can ZP do as much as ZP and win?” which, page by page, speaks about the Nano-Alia meeting and its political consequences.
The article tries to relativize the significance of this meeting and to present as normal what in fact constitutes a return of old figures from the communist regime to the center of political debate.
RD considers this an easy, but not honest, way of avoiding political responsibility.

NANO’S NEWSPAPER HAS THE WORD “HADHUT” AS ITS HERO FROM THE DICTIONARY
“In Albania the poor are not mentioned in high places”
In a Sunday article in “Zëri i rinisë” from the issue dated 1 May 1994, entitled “No comment”, a piece is published in which several issues of the public debate are deliberately distorted.
Our response emphasizes that the language of hatred and slander cannot replace argument, nor can it conceal the truths of Albanian life.
